Letter from the Vice President: Caroline Massey

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood Vice President!

About 20 girls sitting at a long table in IHOP, smiling for the camera (except for a few girls in the corner, who are engrossed in conversation) as they wait for their food.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Caroline Massey, and I am absolutely ecstatic to be continuing my role as VP of the Virginia Women’s Chorus this semester. With the school year now officially in full swing, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming nine talented, kind, and all-around amazing New Girls into the Chorus from all different years, majors, and hometowns. In honor of our new members’ highly-anticipated arrival, we celebrated our biannual New Girl Week which involves a fun event or activity for each day, Monday through Friday. This particular NGW kicked off last Monday night, starting with our first official rehearsal of the semester in Old Cabell Hall! On Tuesday, we all indulged in Bodo’s delicious bagels on the steps of Old Cabell before grabbing dinner together at the Pavilion XI food court on Wednesday. While Thursday’s “Pajama Party” was a bit more low-key, filled with movies, snacks, and late-night chats at the Chorus House, Friday was an absolute blast as the date of everyone’s favorite event: New Girl Night! Complete with a homemade potluck, a surprise serenade from the Hullabahoos, a unicorn piñata, and big-little reveals galore, this NGN truly could not have been better.

Although New Girl Week is now sadly a thing of the past, the Chorus still has a number of exciting Sisterhood events to look forward to throughout the semester, all of which the Managing Board and I have had the pleasure of coordinating! With activities such as movie marathons, pumpkin carving, self-care nights, and sunrise hikes just around the corner, I can assure you that Fall 2019 will be a season of love, fun, and sisterhood for the members of VWC.

Thank you all for your continued love and support of the Chorus, without which none of what we do would be possible, and I sincerely hope you’ll be able to join us at one of our upcoming performances!

VDubz love,

Caroline Massey
