Letter from the President: Julia Kothmann
As Summer comes to an end and the Chorus starts to sing again, I am delighted to serve one more semester as the President of the Virginia Women’s Chorus! As busy as we are with the beginning of classes and other activities, the Chorus has already been hard at work learning music for Rotunda Sing, holding auditions and welcoming new girls.
VWC is off to the races! Coming up right around the bend is our fourth annual Women Against Violence Concert, this year with the theme, “Try A Little Kindness.” The concert will take place at 8pm on Saturday, September 28th in McLeod Hall. Tickets will be $6 for students and $12 for general admission and all proceeds will go to benefit the International Rescue Committee (IRC). This year, we are so excited to have a wide variety of groups performing: Virginia Glee Club, Virginia Gentlemen, Virginia Belles, Hoos In Treble, No Fella A Cappella, Black Voices, and guest artist Ellis Butler will all perform. More information can be found on our website virginiawomenschorus.org.
After a busy September to prepare for WAV, the fun continues with our second big performance of the fall semester at the Choral Showcase for UVA’s Family Weekend. Come hear VWC, along with the Glee Club and the University Singers, perform a selection of songs and a combined piece. The concert will be held Friday, October 18th in Old Cabell Hall. Along with all the other wonderful events the University puts on, it’s sure to be a wonderful weekend.
As if that weren’t enough, make sure you keep an eye out for more information about our beautiful Candlelight Concerts, this year on December 6th and 7th in St. Paul’s Church on the corner. The Chorus is so excited to put on all of these concerts this semester, so thank you for allowing us to do so through your continued support. I’m looking forward to a great semester and I hope to see you all at one of our concerts this year!
