Alumna Spotlight -- Andrea Kahn-Kothmann (COL89) (Major:  History)

Where has life taken you after UVA?  After leaving Charlottesville, I headed to Boston for law school and ultimately ended up in private practice, specializing in health care regulatory and transactional matters.  In 2006, after 14 years, I left law firm practice and took an in-house counsel position at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health in my hometown of Philadelphia.  Seems I couldn't escape the Jeffersonian connections no matter the city!  In 1991, between my second and third years of law school, I married my Glee Club / Virginia Gentlemen beau, Bruce Kothmann, and we've been blessed with two wonderful children, Julia (20 and the current VWC Business Manager!!) and Lewis (16).  We make our home in the suburbs outside Philadelphia and love to get down to Charlottesville as often as we can.

What is your favorite VWC memory?  While thoughts of garden parties and Candlelight Concerts swirl in my head, the experience of singing Orff's Carmina Burana with the Glee Club and University Singers really stands out.  Rehearsals for this performance were a kick -- especially the sight of KaeRenae dancing around a sombrero in the front of B101 to the tune of Tempus Est Iocundum ("Oh -- oh -- oh, totus floreo ...").  Check out a recording and you'll get the idea!

Why are you serving on the AIG?  The Chorus was such an important part of my life at UVA, and has been a great source of sisterhood since, that I want to help strengthen and sustain it and its network of alumnae into the future.  Singing was (and sometimes still is) my refuge.  Being part of the AIG is a way for me to express my gratitude for the years I sang with the Chorus and to help ensure that choral music opportunities remain vibrant at UVA.

The VWC AIG is looking forward to helping kick off the VWC’s Spring Tour in a couple of exciting ways:

  • Come enjoy fellowship through singing with your sisters (they will consider this a warmup to the tour J, we will just enjoy singing)! Register HERE for our AIG and Virginia Women’s Chorus Connections Sing-along on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 in Northern Virginia

  • Show your support! Purchase ads in the VWC Spring Concert program; contact vwcalumnaerelations@gmail.com to coordinate
