Rotunda Dinner Dec 2 – Kickoff to the 50 th Anniversary of VWC!

We are extremely excited to kick off the commemoration of the FIFTIETH Anniversary of the Virginia Women’s Chorus, and we invite you to join us!  VWC Alumnae and Friends is hosting a Rotunda Dinner on the evening of Saturday, December 2, beginning at 5:30 pm - immediately following the 3 pm Candlelight Concert.

We thank those of you who helped us get an indication of interest by completing the interest form in our newsletter.  Eventbrite registration is required of everyone who intends to come whether or not you completed the initial interest form. Eventbrite will be collecting payment for all attendees and guests (this will be an adults-only event). We request registration and payment by the deadline of November 22 (the day before Thanksgiving) so that we can complete preparations! A registration for each attendee (with their name) is needed.

Please read and respond to all the fields on the Eventbrite form, as this is how we will capture important dietary and mobility needs for the event.  If you are interested in purchasing tickets to either of the Candlelight Concerts for the weekend, please use the embedded links in the event description section of the Eventbrite registration form or purchase them here.

Annual Fund Drive

Dear Virginia Women’s Chorus Alumnae, Friends, and Parents, 

As part of this year’s virtual Annual Fund Drive, we are writing to you about the excitement brewing as the Virginia Women’s Chorus approaches its 50th Anniversary in Spring, 2025 to ask for your financial support as the Chorus enters a new semester and plans for this important milestone in its history. 

As we have since its founding, the Chorus’s talented and dedicated singers offer a sound that is unique at UVA and in the Charlottesville community. Our repertoire remains diverse and engaging, from intimate a cappella singing to grand accompanied classical works to challenging modern pieces. Moreover, we offer a supportive and compassionate sisterhood that fosters friendships that often last well beyond graduation, and we provide students with important opportunities to develop leadership and management skills that they’ll take into their working and volunteer lives ahead. 

We’re excited to be kicking off our 50th Anniversary celebration with a Rotunda Dinner during our Candlelight Concert Weekend this coming December 1-2.  Stay tuned for details on how to join us that weekend.  Our Anniversary Year will culminate in a 50th Anniversary Concert and Reunion Weekend in Spring 2025.  We’ll send a save-the-date this coming Spring and hope to see many of you back in Charlottesville to make beautiful music together. 

But, even amidst the excitement, it’ll come as no surprise that the Chorus cannot fulfill its mission without the generous financial support of alumnae, friends and parents. Our expenses each year are significant, including costs for performance venues, music, instrumentalists, our professional conductor’s salary, advertising, tours, workshops, and retreats, to name a few. The revenue from our performances, our fund-raising activities, and the small grants we receive only covers part of our annual costs. We have not received financial support from the Music Department since 1989. Most of our budget comes from the generosity of our donors like you.
